Whitetail Deer - Species Overview
Whitetail deer can be hunted every year in many states with over-the-counter tags or a draw that requires few points. You can hunt deer across the United States but bigger deer tend to be toward the west and Midwest. Some western and midwestern states that offer good hunting include Wyoming, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. In the Midwest, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Texas are good options. Every state mentioned will have quality outfitters to help bag a whitetail deer. It is a good idea to go with an outfitter if you do not have access to private land in the area, because public land can be crowded. States that require a drawing for a tag are North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, and those draws can take a year or two before you get a tag.
