SPECIES OVERVIEW - Mule Deer
You can get a permit for a mule deer in 17 states, several Canadian provinces, and northern Mexico. Hunting out of the country is trickier so most will opt to stay within the United States. Regardless of where you apply within the U.S., it could be a long ride and we encourage patience. The top states to hunt in are Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Wyoming.
Colorado is the top place to bag a trophy buck and we recommend that you apply there first. The bucks here are large, and if you’re willing to apply for several years and be patient, you can get a giant. Nevada is a tricky state to get a tag in, but if you do get lucky enough to get a tag, the likelihood of a trophy deer is high. Utah is proactive about coyote control and their deer mule population is growing, which makes this a promising area to keep an eye on.
